laser treatment 1

At Brentknoll, we have invested in the very best veterinary laser on the market. Our laser machine is a Class 4 companion laser, offering a holistic treatment to provide analgesic pain reduction, reduction in swelling, and greatly improved healing times and outcomes.

Laser therapy (photobiomodulation) uses specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to change the body's tissues. It is safe and effective.

How does it work?

Photo biomodulation targets your pet's damaged cells and helps them regenerate faster. Much like sunlight helps energise a plant cell, this energy helps your pet's cells work more efficiently to promote healing times and act as drug-free pain relief.

The treatment also aims to increase circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the treatment area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain.

Our laser equipment allows us to offer faster, more effective treatments and has also increased the range of conditions we can treat.

Laser therapy has been scientifically proven to be successful in treating post-surgical pain for many acute and chronic conditions.

Below are just a few of these that we see more often in the clinic:

  • Wound healing
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Cruciate injury
  • Spinal conditions such as Intervertebral disk herniation (IVVD)
  • Elbow and Hip Dysplasia
  • Hot spots
  • Skin conditions

The response to the treatment can sometimes be seen as soon as 12 hours after treatment, but the effect is cumulative, and most conditions require several treatments for the greatest benefit. Most cases require up to 6 treatments, often delivered in weekly sessions.

There is no need for sedation.

Laser is for more than just our canine patients! We have several Feline and Rabbit patients who enjoy the benefits of our laser therapy treatment.

FAQ's

How long will each laser session last?

Laser sessions usually last 30-60 minutes but are often combined with one of our other treatment plans, such as hydrotherapy or chiropractic assessment. They will always be with consent from your pet's veterinarian. Each treatment is specifically tailored for your pet, so the therapist will give you exact information on this at your pet's initial assessment.

How many laser sessions will my pet need?

Session quantity varies depending on a few factors, mainly the primary condition being treated, but it also varies between animals. Some patients, especially those with chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, will only need a short course of 4-6 weeks. In some cases, this short course will follow with maintenance treatments every month, but this will be discussed in more detail after your pet's initial assessment.

Will it hurt them?

No, the treatment is non-invasive and safe. The only thing they may feel is a gentle warming!

Can I stay with them?

Of course! We have safety goggles for owners who choose to be with their pets during treatment so they can feel safe and comfortable, ask questions, and stay updated about treatment firsthand.
